A quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions come from energy used in the home and with average energy bills topping £1,200 a year making energy efficiency improvements at home can make an important contribution to both cutting carbon emissions and energy costs. West Cornwall has some of the highest levels of fuel poverty in the UK and with many households across the area are struggling to pay increasing energy bills and keep their homes warm, there is an urgent need to find ways to save energy and cut fuel bills.

“Many community groups around the country have run open home events over recent years and there’s been lot of interest in how we how people have improved their home’s energy efficiency and what difference different technologies have made.” said Rob Pickering, the event’s Co-ordinator. “You only have to think back to the last time you tried a new place to eat, or bought something new, to know that it’s really valuable to get the opinion of someone who has already tried it as they’ll be able to give you honest feedback on the benefits and savings as well as any challenges or considerations to bear in mind.”

GOH-poster-webFellow organiser Abbie Brook said: “Over the weekend we’ll be showcasing a range of homes with all types of improvements, from properties who have installed an energy efficient log burner or carried out simple draught proofing measures to those who have invested in technology such as renewable energy systems and electric vehicles, so whatever improvements you may be considering there should be an ‘open home’ available to suit you.”.

Tickets for West Cornwall Green Open Homes are free and can be pre-booked using our online booking system.
